According to Italian publication Tuttosport, Massimiliano Allegri is edging ever closer to replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of Manchester United.
What’s the word?
After a difficult start to the current campaign, the Red Devils find themselves in twelfth place in the Premier League, with just nine points from their opening eight games.
That poor run of form has increased speculation over Solskjaer’s long-term future at the club, and now, Tuttosport claim the United hierarchy are ready to act on the Norwegian’s fate.

The report claims the Manchester side are closing in on the appointment of former Juventus manager Allegri, in a deal reportedly worth £6.5m per year.
The perfect choice
Make no mistake about it, Allegri’s CV is up there with some of the best of the modern game. His countless trophies in his time with the Bianconeri is impressive, and he also led the Serie A giants to two Champions League finals – a feat often overlooked by many.

Compared to the level of experience Solskjaer had built up before he was given the job of replacing Jose Mourinho, it really is night and day. Allegri would provide the club with years of knowledge at the top of the game, and he has proven at Juventus that he is capable of managing a team in transition.
In his spell at Turin, the likes of Arturo Vidal, Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Alvaro Morata and Leonardo Bonucci all left the club. And yet, he still managed to keep them at the top of Italian football, and a force to be reckoned with in Europe.
For Woodward and co, perhaps they should look no further than the glowing compliment Sir Alex Ferguson paid his managerial counterpart, describing the Italian as an “extraordinary coach”. United need a safe pair of hands to navigate them through this tricky period, and someone like Allegri makes complete sense in helping to steer the ship in the right direction.
