And right on time, as we are slowly but surely approaching the upcoming winter transfer market, various rumours have finally started picking up the pace and are arriving almost on a daily basis.
One of those concerning Real Madrid, however, despite being fairly fresh, is nothing new at all – AS have reported that Florentino Perez is determined to land Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain’s prodigy.

As we already know, the 20-year-old French forward is one of the biggest talents, if not the biggest talent, on the planet and Los Blancos’ interest is no surprise at all.
After all, we’re talking here about a kid who’s already bagged six goals and four assists in eight games played across all competitions in 2019/20, and has had a monstrous 2018/19 campaign, scoring 39 and assisting 17 in the process.
For that reason, the reported asking price of around €300m (£242m) also doesn’t really come as a surprise but it does come with a lot of question marks over Perez’s decision making.
It seems that he will stop at nothing to get his revolution going and Mbappe is the only man he sees fit for leading it.
Of course, the obvious positive from that exercise is that Real Madrid would finally get their big Galactico signing they’ve been craving for.
Mbappe definitely sounds like a name fitting of that title – both with his name and his skill – and one that would undoubtedly bring quality and refreshment into a team that is seemingly in need of it.
That much can hardly be disproved.
However, the whole deal comes with a big caveat: can Los Blancos really afford to fork out over £200m just to land one single target?

Let’s not forget that this Real Madrid squad is far from perfect and thinking that a young and prolific goalscorer can suddenly magically solve all of their problems is rather naive, to say the least.
Zinedine Zidane’s key pieces are slowly ageing and getting past their prime years: all of Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale are already in their 30s and not getting any younger.
They have no natural replacements for Casemiro and not to mention that they have been quite suspect defensively this season, having already conceded 14 goals in 12 games and 7.4 shots per game in La Liga.
Evidently, there are plenty of gaps they will need to plug and more likely than not, not all of them will be possible to solve without further reinforcing the team.
Mbappe, if he truly ends up coming, would be a huge acquisition but he would take up too much of their budget and that would leave the squad less than just halfway finished.
Unless, of course, Perez has a huge warchest on his disposal and is planning to go a spending spree regardless of whether or not they incorporate the young prodigy.
But even for Real Madrid, that statement seems like a stretch at best.
